Dr Pham Thanh Dam is a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST), Ton Duc Thang University. He earned a degree in Marine Engineering from Vietnam Maritime University (2005), followed by an MSc (2013) and a PhD (2020) in Ocean Engineering/Offshore Wind Energy from the University of Ulsan, Republic of Korea. His earlier industrial experience includes marine engineering and machinery team leadership at Dung Quat Shipyard (2005–2010) and management work at Donghwa in Busan (2013–2016). He subsequently held research positions at the University of Ulsan (postdoctoral researcher, 2020–2021), Duy Tan University (2021–2023), and University College Cork, Ireland (2023–2025), before joining Ton Duc Thang University in 2025.
His research focuses on (i) metocean characterisation and environmental design conditions for offshore wind; (ii) dynamic analysis, wave–structure–soil interaction, and the engineering of fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind support structures; (iii) modelling and assessment of offshore wind-powered green hydrogen production and storage; and (iv) multi-use floating platforms integrating offshore renewable energy and aquaculture. His work draws on numerical modelling, coupled dynamic simulation, reliability assessment, and comparisons with experimental or reference data where available.
His long-term research vision is to strengthen Vietnam’s capabilities in offshore renewable energy systems by connecting marine environmental databases, engineering models, and computational tools.
