Biography & Research Vision

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thuy Dong earned an engineering degree in Bridge and Road Engineering from the University of Transport and Communications, Vietnam, in 2011, and received her Master’s degree in Physics and Applications from Université Paris 13, France, in 2012. In 2018, she earned her PhD in Mechanics from the VNU University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam.

From 2011 to January 31, 2023, she was a lecturer at the University of Transport Technology. From 2021 to January 2023, she served as Deputy Leader of the Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures (MAMS) Strong Research Group at the University of Transport Technology.

Since February 2023, she has been working at the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST), Ton Duc Thang University, as a Researcher in the Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures (MAMS) Laboratory. In February 2024, she was appointed Associate Professor at Ton Duc Thang University. Since September 2025, she has served as Vice Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST), Ton Duc Thang University.

Her main research focuses on the nonlinear static stability and dynamic analysis of plate and shell structures made of advanced composite materials, with particular emphasis on plates and shells reinforced by stiffener systems and lightweight cores under complex loading conditions.

With 39 WoS-indexed publications and an h-index of 19, she has led or participated in 6 research projects at various levels. She has successfully supervised hundreds of undergraduate students in defending their graduation projects in Construction Engineering Technology, as well as 06 master’s students who successfully defended their theses on topics related to computational mechanics and construction engineering. She has co-supervised 02 doctoral candidates in Special Construction Engineering to successful completion and is currently supervising 03 doctoral candidates in Engineering Mechanics and Computational Science.

Her long-term vision is to develop computational methods for the stability and dynamic analysis of engineering structures reinforced by stiffener systems of various shapes, based on analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical approaches; and to optimise the design of stiffener systems and complex core structures with the support of machine learning algorithms.
