1. Biography
Prof. Adam Lee is currently a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR, Singapore). He is a leading authority in Sustainable Chemistry, bringing over 28 years of extensive experience in pioneering research, teaching, and academic leadership within the higher education sector. He also holds prestigious concurrent appointments as an International Distinguished Scholar of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP, China) through the President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), and as a Visiting Professor of Sustainable Chemistry at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China). He previously held distinguished Chair appointments at Cardiff, Warwick, Monash, Aston, RMIT, and Griffith Universities.
Prof. Lee earned his BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Surface Science and Catalysis, both from the University of Cambridge (UK). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), and an Associate Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
Across his academic career, Prof. Lee has co-authored over 310 publications in the world's most prestigious journals, including Nature Catalysis, Chemical Reviews, Chemical Science, Angewandte Chemie, and Energy & Environmental Science, with an H-index of 91 and 29,760 citations. In terms of editorial leadership, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Materials Today Chemistry and an Associate Editor of Energy & Environmental Materials.
2. Research direction
His research focuses on the rational design of nanoengineered materials and catalysts for sustainable and renewable energy applications, including biomass valorization, green hydrogen production, plastic upcycling, and carbon capture and utilization. For his groundbreaking contributions, he has been honored with numerous prestigious accolades, including the McBain Medal (2011), the Beilby Medal and Prize (2012), and the RACI Welcome Award (2023), directly advancing the global knowledge and practice of sustainable chemistry.
