Welcome Dr. Tran Huu Giap, Co-affiliated Lecturer at the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology
The Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST), Ton Duc Thang University, is pleased to welcome Dr. Tran Huu Giap, who joins the Institute as a co-affiliated lecturer. Dr. Giap’s participation strengthens the Institute’s research capacity, particularly in natural products chemistry, while expanding research and training connections between IAST and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
Dr. Tran Huu Giap is currently Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Drug Development, Institute of Chemistry, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. With deep expertise in organic chemistry, Dr. Giap focuses on the chemistry of natural products, including isolation, structure elucidation, and biological activity evaluation, with the aim of discovering compounds of scientific value and potential application.
Dr. Giap’s research covers a wide range of natural sources, such as medicinal plants, herbal materials, and microalgae, combining studies of chemical composition with assessments of biological activity. Many compound groups with notable structures and activities have been investigated, related to effects such as lipid-lowering, anti-inflammatory, α-glucosidase inhibition, acetylcholinesterase inhibition, and cytotoxicity. In recent years, Dr. Giap has led and participated in numerous scientific projects along these lines.
With his experience in natural products chemistry and bioactivity research, Dr. Tran Huu Giap’s participation is expected to help develop interdisciplinary research directions at IAST, especially at the intersection of chemistry, biology, medicinal materials, and analytical technology. It will also promote research collaboration, co-supervision of students, and the development of joint scientific projects between IAST and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
IAST is delighted to accompany Dr. Tran Huu Giap in his research and training activities at IAST - TDTU. We wish Dr. Giap good health, success, and many positive contributions to the development of the Institute.
