Congratulations to Dr. Tran Ngoc Giang on the publication in the top-tier journal
The Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST) is proud to congratulate Dr. Tran Ngoc Giang on his recent publication in the prestigious international journal Langmuir.
The article, entitled "Sustainable and Scalable Fabrication of Fluorine-Free Superhydrophobic Ceramic Surfaces via Laser Texturing and Silicone Oil Heat Treatment," was inspired by the natural phenomenon commonly described in Vietnamese as "water rolling off a taro leaf," which exemplifies remarkable water repellency in nature.
In response to the growing demand for advanced materials in challenging environments such as aerospace, optics, biomedical devices, and environmental engineering, superhydrophobic ceramic surfaces have attracted considerable attention owing to their exceptional properties, including self-cleaning, anti-icing, corrosion resistance, and drag reduction.
In this study, the authors successfully developed a superhydrophobic ceramic surface fabrication process that dramatically reduces the processing time from several days to only ten minutes. This breakthrough approach has the potential to replace many existing complex fabrication methods by offering several key advantages, including a simple and ultrafast process, environmental friendliness, high durability, ease of repair, and strong potential for large-scale industrial production and practical deployment. Furthermore, the ability to precisely tailor water adhesion on the fabricated surfaces opens promising opportunities for more sophisticated applications, particularly in the biomedical field.
The success of this research not only demonstrates the scientific excellence, international publication capacity, and research contributions of Dr. Ngoc Giang Tran and his colleagues at IAST but also contributes meaningfully to Vietnam’s green transition and sustainable development strategies.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Tran Ngoc Giang and his research team on this remarkable accomplishment and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
