PhD THESIS DEFENSE AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL – FIELD OF SPECIAL CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING
The Institute for Advanced Study in Technology (IAST) is pleased to announce and congratulate PhD candidate Vu Minh Duc on successfully defending his doctoral dissertation at the university level, in the field of Special Construction Engineering at the University of Transport and Communications.
Details of the defense session:
- Dissertation Topic: A study on the nonlinear dynamics of structural plate and shell components made of graphene-reinforced composites.
- xPrincipal Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong - Ton Duc Thang University
- Co-Supervisor: Dr. Tran Ngoc Hung - University of Transport and Communications
Brief information on the research direction:
The dissertation of PhD candidate Vu Minh Duc focuses on the nonlinear dynamic analysis of plate and shell structures (cylindrical panels, parabolic panels, sinusoidal panels, circular plates, shallow spherical shells) made from FG-GPLRC materials. Based on the third-order shear deformation theory, combined with geometrical nonlinearity following the von Kármán model and an improved Lekhnitskii's smearing technique, the governing equations for dynamic stability and nonlinear vibration problems have been established. The stress function for parabolic and sinusoidal panels is approximately determined using the Galerkin method, combined with the use of the Lagrange function, the Euler-Lagrange equation, and the Rayleigh dissipation function to establish the nonlinear motion equations of the structure. The corresponding dynamic responses and critical dynamic loads are analyzed using the Runge-Kutta method and the Budiansky-Roth criterion. The results of the dissertation contribute to clarifying the laws of vibration and nonlinear stability of the structures, and provide a basis for reference for design, fabrication, and application. The results of the dissertation not only have scientific value but also have practical significance in the development of modern engineering structures such as in aviation, aerospace, machinery, and transportation.
IAST congratulates PhD candidate Vu Minh Duc on completing and successfully defending his doctoral dissertation. This is an important milestone in the candidate's research career and a source of pride for the IAST. We wish PhD candidate Duc continued success and new breakthroughs in his upcoming research!
